Definition: The relief valve (RV) is a type of safety protected valve used to control or limit the pressure in a piping system. When the pipeline pressure rises up that exceeds the set pressure, the relief valve will open automatically and a portion of the fluid is diverted out of the system; When the pipeline pressure drops that lowers down the set pressure, the relief valve will close.
Function: The relief valve is designed or set to open to discharge pressurized fluid at a predetermined set pressure to protect pipeline and other equipment from being subjected to pressures that exceed their design limits and becoming damage.
